Boundaries:
City Place’s boundary is from Bathurst Street to slightly east of Spadina Ave and between Front St. and Lakeshore Blvd. Harbourfront loosely is south of Lakeshore Blvd. and from Bathurst Quay over to the base of Yonge Street.

City Place & Harbourfront Neighbourhood History:
Originally neighbourhoods such as City Place, Fort York and Harbourfront were mostly part of Lake Ontario. Most land south of front street today has been reclaimed over time to make these nerighbourhoods. Originally these areas were mostly industrial areas and have since been opened up for redevelopment in an attempt to utilise prime land in downtown Toronto. City Place is a large section of land, which used to be the site of Canadian National’s Yard Facility at the base of Spadina Ave. To mark the plans of redeveopment for the whole area initially by the city of Toronto, the CN tower and the Metro Convention Centre were both built to commemorate Canadian industry. Later the SkyDome, now known as the Rogers Centre and the Air Canada Centre were built. Concord Adex Developments were assigned the job of building the many high rise communities in City Place roughly amounting to 7.5 thousand units.
Harbourfront used also be mostly industrial but in the 70’s plans were drawn up to revitilise the area into a cultural and residential area. Many smaller parks and boating areas where developed along the waterfront whilst private developers built many condominium towers just to the north.
Who’s Buying in City Place & Harbourfront:
In City Place most of the buyers are younger first time buyers due to the strong and consistent supply of affordable suites in the condominium towers. During the boom years of the last decade many investors where speculating on price increases which have since evened out and in the current more balanced market conditions many units are being utilized as rentals. There are of course several townhome developments, which are more attractive to the family buyers in this area, but again, this purchaser is a smaller proportion of the demographic.
Harbourfont having been developed a few decades earlier has a more mature owner and you’ll find many a sports star and their families owning waterfront condominiums with spectacular views of the lake and the Toronto Islands. Although older, these condominiums generally fetch much higher prices due to tight supply, larger footprints and their prime location.

The 510 Streetcar runs north / south on Spadina between Union Station and the Bloor-Danforth Subway line.
